On Thursday 13th July 2023, 60 golfers took part in Jnetics’ Golf Day at Hartsbourne Country Club in Bushey. Participants arrived bright and early on a beautiful sunny Thursday morning and tucked into a delicious buffet breakfast. Some took the opportunity to get some practice in before the shotgun start at 9am.
Participants were all delighted to receive a goody bag containing golf balls, tees, and some snacks which was kindly sponsored by a generous donor.
The shotgun sounded sharply at 9am and the tournament commenced. Jnetics staff kept participants fuelled throughout the day with drinks and snacks at the halfway point and on the course as they whizzed round on a golf buggy from hole to hole. Following the tournament, participants sat down for lunch and a warm welcome was made by our chairman Tony Angel followed by a speech from Jnetics’ CEO, Nicole Gordon, who thanked all our sponsors for making the event possible and to everyone for coming.
Nicole then captivated the audience by sharing a story about a couple who were found to be a ‘carrier couple’ by testing through the Jnetics clinic. The couple carried the faulty gene for a condition called Familial Dysautonomia, meaning that any future children would have a 1:4 chance of being born with the life-threatening disease.
The knowledge the couple gained by testing through Jnetics for 47 recessive disorders, enabled them to explore their options to ensure that any future children would not be affected by the disorder. Nicole told the audience of how the couple now have a beautiful baby boy free of the life threatening and life shortening disorder and are hugely grateful to Jnetics for giving them the knowledge and power to enable this to happen.
After Nicole’s speech, Jnetics team delivered the prize presentation, and this was followed by the raffle which included some fabulous prizes including a 2-night stay at The Grove Hotel and a spa day for 2 at The Laboratory.
Nicole Gordon, CEO concluded “A wonderful day was had by all -the event was a great success and the funds raised will ensure Jnetics can continue to offer its life saving carrier screening services to our community. We look forward to our next golf day in 2024”.
