Our GENEius initiative, to be rolled out over the next three years, will focus on educating all young Jewish adults on the importance of screening for Jewish genetic disorders and facilitating access to screening
We will start by introducing the programme for sixth form students in Jewish schools and for couples getting married through the various synagogue movements. We then plan to extend the programme to those Universities with a high proportion of Jewish students so that, within a few years, the majority of young Jewish adults will be well informed about JGDs and will have had the opportunity to be screened prior to having children.
The long term aim of our GENEius education and screening programme is to create a shift in the mindset of the UK Jewish community, so that screening for recessive JGDs becomes as important and routine here as it is elsewhere in the Jewish world.
