BRCA Testing via Jnetics

Jnetics is proud to facilitate an interim BRCA testing service while the NHS Jewish BRCA Testing Programme is temporarily closed to new registrations.

The service is available to UK residents aged 18 or over who have at least one Jewish grandparent from any Jewish background. The programme is open to all sexes and genders.

The price of the test is £295. This price is heavily subsidised by Jnetics to help make genetic testing more accessible. The fee includes:

• A saliva testing kit;
• Laboratory analysis of BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes;
• Clinical review of your results;
• Access to an independent genetic counsellor throughout the testing journey;
• Advice and support regarding NHS referral where appropriate.

Jnetics acts solely as the facilitator, and is not a clinical healthcare provider. We provide education and administrative support, process registrations and payments, and coordinate access to the different parts of the service. Jnetics does not analyse samples, interpret results, provide medical advice or make decisions about your clinical care.

Who provides the clinical service?

The clinical elements of the pathway are delivered independently of Jnetics.

Nonacus Clinical Services analyses your saliva sample, identifies and classifies relevant findings in BRCA1 and BRCA2, and produces the clinical laboratory report. Its hereditary cancer testing service is UKAS-accredited to the ISO 15189:2022 standard for medical laboratories.

Cheryl Berlin, independent consultant genetic counsellor, assesses whether this testing pathway is appropriate for you. She reviews the laboratory report, communicates and explains your result, provides genetic counselling, and advises you about appropriate next steps. If necessary, Cheryl may recommend that you speak to your GP or treating medical team about referral to an NHS clinical genetics service. NHS referral, testing, screening and treatment remain subject to assessment by the relevant NHS service and are not guaranteed as part of the £295 fee.

Who is eligible?

This service is available to:

• Adults aged 18 years or over;
• People with Jewish ancestry – at least one Jewish grandparent of any Jewish ethnicity;
• A UK resident.
